Landen-Deerfield Park Trail Improvements
Warren County Park District Announces Trail Improvements at Landen-Deerfield Park; Community Meetings Scheduled
Lebanon, Ohio — Warren County Park District has announced plans to renovate and improve the natural surface trail system at Landen-Deerfield Park, with public open houses scheduled for March 12 and March 25 to gather community input.
The project, titled Landen-Deerfield Park Natural Surface Trail Enhancements, will focus on improving sustainability, enhancing wayfinding, protecting natural resources, and creating a safe, welcoming experience for hikers, runners, and mountain bikers of all skill levels.
The existing trail system includes approximately three miles of natural surface trails within the park’s 27.5-acre wooded area surrounding Simpson Creek. While the trails are well-loved and heavily used, portions were constructed years ago using practices that are no longer considered sustainable. Over time, certain steep alignments have contributed to erosion and increased maintenance needs.
“This project is about strengthening what we already have,” said Matt Latham, Chief Executive Officer of Warren County Park District. “Our goals are to improve sustainability, simplify navigation, and ensure the park remains safe and enjoyable for decades to come.”
Key project goals include:
-
Realigning erosion-prone trail segments using modern sustainable design practices
-
Restoring and revegetating unsustainable or redundant “social trails”
-
Improving drainage to protect Simpson Creek and surrounding natural areas
-
Simplifying the trail layout and enhancing wayfinding and signage
-
Maintaining shared-use access while creating a more beginner-friendly experience
The project is funded through a grant from the State of Ohio via the Ohio Trails Partnership. Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance (CORA) is a key project partner.
Construction is anticipated to occur in Summer–Fall 2026, with temporary trail closures expected during that period for safety.
